Top 10 Things To Do In The Upper East Side

I like top 10 lists! If you have ADD like me you can easily get confused with so much information. NYC is such an exciting town that it's almost impossible to do everything. If you are staying in one of our upper east side vacation rentals you will most likely spend your time in the UES (like we call it in NYC). Below are some of my favorite things (some are for locals and others are touristy but they are all fun) to do in that part of town.

If you are a foodie you will love Zabar's (make sure you go with lots of money b/c it gets expensive!!)

The Upper East side of New York City is one of the most affluent areas of the city. A visit to the Upper East Side is enjoyable as it has something for everyone. Take a browse through the rest of this article to discover where you should visit when in the area.

10. Museum of the City of New York: Any visitors to New York should spend some time at the City of New York Museum. This has lots of different exhibits and displays which will help people to understand how the city began life and what has changed since it was founded.

9. Carl Schurz Park: New York is a very busy city, but there are quite a few parks where you can escape modern life. Carl Schurz is located in the Upper East Side. This is quieter than central park and a wonderful place to visit and relax.

8. Prohibition: This is a small little bar which has live entertainment every week. This is a very popular bar and there is also a back room with a pool table.

7. Frick Collection: Art lovers will enjoy a visit to the Frick Collection. This was once the private collection owned by Henry Clay Frick. The collection is housed in his former residence – The Frick Mansion. Adult tickets cost $18, but children under 10 are not allowed inside. The collection includes many famous artists, including Rembrandt.

6. Bloomingdales: Bloomingdales is perhaps the most famous department store in the world. It’s a great place to visit for a spot of retail therapy. If you want to visit during quiet times then it is best to go before lunch weekdays. Anyone shopping for a long time can check their bags and coats in to make shopping that bit more enjoyable.

5. Roosevelt Island Aerial Tram: New York is an amazing city with lots to see and do, sometimes looking at it from a different angle can make it appear even more magical. The ride only lasts four minutes, but you get to see some stunning panoramic views of New York City.

4. Japan Society Gallery: The Japan Society Gallery lets you look at some beautiful pieces of Asian art without leaving New York. There are many different movies, paintings and pictures all depicting Asian life.

3. Madison Avenue: Madison Avenue is a very popular shopping destination. This is a luxury shopping location which has lots of fashion boutiques. There are also hair salons, hotels and restaurants.

2. Guggenheim Museum: There are many reasons to visit the Guggenheim, one of the first things you will notice is the building itself. The building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and looks completely unique. The museum displays paintings, films and sculpture. Many different displays alternate throughout the year.

1. Central Park: Central Park is located in between the Upper East and Upper West Sides. It is within walking distance which should make it very easy for anyone to visit when staying in the Upper East Side. Central Park is a great place to visit for anyone wanting to escape frantic city life. There are many different things to do in Central Park, including walking on the many acres of paths, relaxing or even rock climbing.
